The Merindas Headline the Donnybrook Apple Festival

There are a range of activities providing non-stop entertainment for the entire family such as produce displays, fruit stalls, log chops, face painting, pony rides, agricultural and machinery displays, wine tastings, free children’s activities, live music, animal exhibits, street parade, Sideshow Alley, market stalls and a spectacular Fireworks display on Saturday Night.

The Apple Festival remains a major event in the calendar of the Donnybrook community to promote the town, the district and the diverse array of produce we grow.

Joondalup Sunday Serenades

Joondalup Civic Centre, 90 Boas Ave, Joondalup

Join us for a special NAIDOC Sunday Serenades concert in July 2016. The Merindas are an Australian Aboriginal contemporary soul duo consisting of award-winning artists Candice Lorrae and Kristel Kickett.

The Merindas caught their big break in 2012, delivering a one-off show for Noongar Radio's premiere of the ‘The Sapphires’. They have supported some of Australia's biggest stars including Kasey Donovan, Christine Anu and Troy Cassar-Daley. Building on their expanding fan base, the group released their first single Ready To Love which won Indigenous WAM Song of the Year in 2015. Drawing on their vast experience in Gospel, Blues, Soul and R&B, the Merindas will entertain you with some of biggest hits from the Motown era.

There is a special complimentary afternoon tea following the July concert, offering patrons a taste of traditional Indigenous bush spices and flavours.

Phil Walleystack - Walk With Me

The Merindas will be lighting the stage with Phil Walleystack at the Astor Theatre.

Phil is one of Australia’s most admired entertainers and inherits a performance tradition that pre-dates modern arts.

Raised in Country Western Australia, he was taught his Traditional songs and dance and how to survive in the bush by his Elders.

All of his life he has been on stage, in the limelight, always having to be the centre of attention, so at age 20 Phil followed his passion and dream to become an International artist. He moved to the city of Perth and enrolled into the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) then onto Sydney to study at the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Academy (NAISDA). It was here that Phil was introduced to many forms of dance and music, from Traditional Aboriginal songs and dance from all over Australia to modern contemporary ,Tap, Jazz and Ballet.

Since leaving NAISDA Phil has shared the stage with many different Cultures. From this experience he has created his unique sound, influenced by Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop and his Culture he created his first album STRONG.

After spending the past few years performing in USA, Middle East, Germany, France, China, Indonesia and Malaysia he is currently working on his second album with some of the worlds top musicians. And has now been labelled an “INTERNATIONAL ARTIST”

Back 2 Black - Hip Hop VS Motown

BACK 2 BLACK is back with its second installment featuring back to back sets from the deadly, up and coming Hip Hop outfit ‘Tha Strangerz’ and followed by Australia’s premier Motown act, ‘The Merindas’.

It’s a Hip Hop Motown mash-up and your deadly BACK 2 BLACK brothers, Bryte and J-Point, are back at Mojo’s Bar in North Fremantle to host this explosive night of boom-bap greatness and soulful sweetness.

Lord Dazastah, the man behind the beats of some of Australia’s most iconic tunes will grace the stage with our acts and set the stage alight with live cuts and MPC integration.

There are always prizes to be won at BACK 2 BLACK events, band hats, clothing, stickers, stubbie coolers, CDs, vinyls and signed framed posters are all up for grabs.

ANZAC Concert

Djeran Festival

Centennial Pioneer Park, Gosnells

Join us for an evening of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a free screening of the family movie Inside Out at the Djeran Fest, held at Centennial Pioneer Park on Friday 15 April from 5pm to 9.30pm.

Named after one of the six seasons, Djeran Fest will be a community celebration featuring cultural performances, displays of traditional skills and an opportunity to find out more about local services with a health and wellbeing focus.

A highlight of the evening will be a special performance by popular Aboriginal Motown duo, The Merindas, followed by a screening of Disney Pixar’s Inside Out at 7.30pm.

Activities include art and craft workshops, community stalls, giant games, roving entertainment, a youth skate zone and much more. Langford Aboriginal Association’s Art and Yarning group will be exhibiting artworks, jewellery and crafts available to purchase on the night.

The evening starts at 5pm with a free sausage sizzle for the first 300 visitors. Be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot, bring a picnic if you prefer and enjoy a free night out with the family.

This is a partnership event between the City of Gosnells, Langford Aboriginal Association, RUAH Community Services and the Aboriginal community with funding from the Department of Social Services.

Djeran Fest is an alcohol and smoke free event.
